Today, was the second annual Practice Tree Nationals. This event was chaired by Bob and Becky Churchill and emceed by Rocky Ausec. If you haven't been to one of these, briefly, its a reaction time competition using a practice "tree". The event is organized like a drag racing event with three classes (Pro, Sportsman and Juniors) with staging lane and everything. The first part of the event was a social hour with drink and food for everyone. The Car Chix organization was there and manning a booth. After the social hour, the action began with two practice rounds and two qualifying rounds. At the conclusion of the qualifying, the participants were organized into the three classes to begin the Elimination Rounds. As stated above, the entire event was emceed by Rocky "Solid Rock" Ausec In between Rounds, Rocky held the drawings for the door prizes. I think everyone went home with at least one door prize! Here are some photos from the "racing". In the end, it was Greg King over Dominic Bowden in the Pro Class. Bill Larson beat Bobby Churchill in the Sportsman Class. And it was Andy Rucker over Jesse Lasik in Juniors. After the awards, it got serious when a challenge was issued between Ryan Alley and Dominic Bowden. some cash ended up on the table. I'm not quite sure who won, but I heard Ryan won the challenge. All in all it was a day of family fun, good food (including dessert) and good competition. The Organization would like to thank the following sponsors:
Car Chix Midwest Junior Super Series Good Vibrations Motorsports Great Lakes Nostalgic Funny Car Circuit Old World Industries Horwitz Horwitz and Associates Competition Cams Sontag Speed Supply Ingalls Park AC To see all the photos from today's event please click here.

![]() Today was a fun day at the Race & Performance Expo at the Schaumburg Convention Center. My Granddaughter accompanied me and she enjoyed meeting and greeting everyone. Our first stop was at the Chicagoland Speedway/Route 66 booth. From there we ran over to the Car Chix booth where we picked up a couple of autographed calendars. Our friend, Maranda Lawson was Miss January. Here is a pic of her car used on her hero card. We continued around the hall running into friend after friend like Randy Simpson from Lucas Oil Raceway Park and Chelsea Vangsness from Byron Dragway. We caught up on a few things. We stopped by the Beat the Heat booth and had a conversation with Jim Luckett. He stated their schedule was filling up and they were working on some dates for Route 66. We talked with John Lawson about the Nostalgic Funny Car "Runaway" and reminisced with Dale Creasy about his crash at the Route 66 Test and Tune in May, 2015. We met several of our younger drivers. Zach Tinkle, who drives in the Central States Super Cup Series and Delaney Pitner , seven year old go cart driver at US 41 Speedway. Delaney had eight feature wins at US 41 and couple of other tracks. Here is Zach at the Rockford Speedway with his National Short Track Championship win. I can't even count the number of friends we talked to and new contacts. This was a great start to the 2016 season. If you are into racing, in all forms, I would l highly recommend this show. It runs through tomorrow 9-5 at the Schaumburg Convention Center. Here are a few more shots from the Expo.
