On Sunday, Rockford Speedway concluded its 2014 season with the running of the Goblin 250 Enduro. The entire day consisted of a children's Halloween costume contest, followed by the Women's Championship race sponsored by Racer Girl. This was a 30 lap feature won by Cassy Frisch. Cassy battled for the lead all day in an exciting race. This was Cassy's 9th feature win of the season. The Goblin 250 Enduro had 107 4-cylinder cars start the race. The first half of the race was run on the oval. At the halfway break, the track is re-configured to include a kink and is called the Monza course. While this is being done, all the kids gather on the frontstretch for the Candy Scramble. At the start of the second half, Jim Kingel charged to the lead and for the better part of the race held the lead, followed by Eddie Brown and Dale Markham. At the conclusion of the Enduro, the track was reconfigured and the "Big Swarm" Demo Derby started. There was plenty of action and crashing with cars getting on top of each amongst some of the more spectacular crashes. It came down to two cars maneuvering around with Jorge Renteria winning the battle. To see all the day's action please click here.
This was my last car racing event of the year and what a great year it was. Now its time to get gear cleaned, repaired and get ready for Snocross racing starting in December. What's good is that in addition to GLX Snocross, ISOC Snocross is coming to Route 66 in February. This should be a great event at a great facility. To see our complete portfolio please click here.

Tonight was the fifth and final Team Demo of the season. The Mean Green Machine had a commanding lead in the Championship and by starting the first preliminary, they were crowned the 2014 Champions. However that was not good enough, as they also won tonight's event. On their way to the win. they defeated Real Steel in the preliminaries, Orange Crush in the semi-finals and in the finals. Junkyard Dogs. There was a scare in the Semi's when the Mean Green Machine's Matt "Opie" Pierce took a massive head on hit. He had to be cut out of the car, placed on a backboard and transported to the hospital. The last report was that he was awake and talking. The Mean Green Machine took four out of five of this season's races. In the Figure 8 Spectator car race, it was #30 Pete Morris taking home the trophy and in the truck race it was #11 Ryan Hoffman taking home the win. I took this past weekend off to spend time with our granddaughter. Since she moved from our house, it's not often we get to spend an entire weekend with her. It was fun just having her with us. This coming weekend it's back to work at the Rockford Speedway. I want to make one correction to the National Short Track Championship page. After post race inspection Casey Johnson's car was disqualified due to some unapproved carburetor parts. The win was awarded to the second place finisher Steve Rubeck. This weekend's event is the Bahama Brackets. The weekend starts with an open practice Friday night and then the Heats and Qualifiers will run Saturday night. The 50 lap features will run Sunday afternoon with the winner having the choice of prize money or a trip for two to the Bahamas, hence Bahama Brackets. Its a fun event. The weather forecast will be for cool weather and the possibility of rain on Sunday. It will definitely call for dressing warm. I'm looking forward to this weekend because last year, it was on Saturday night, that I went down after my leg collapsed. I was already scheduled for knee replacement surgery on the Monday after the event and this ended my race season. This was the first event that I had ever not finished. This year I will complete the event. Here are some images from last year's event. To see the rest of the action from last year's Bahama Brackets, click here.
A good thing that happened today was the return of my 28-70mm f2.8 from repair. I will pick it up in the morning. I have to give kudos to Sigma for the quick turnaround. If you are ever thinking about a non-OEM lens or other photographic equipment, I would give Sigma a serious look. Their customer service is second to none in the industry. I own four of their lenses and three flashes and have had nothing but good luck with all their products. To see our complete portfolio please click here. |
