![]() The day started as a beautiful warm, but foggy morning. When we arrived at Route 66, we learned there was a major storm brewing. The track went into a hurry-up mode by going directly into time trials, foregoing practice. In the Sportsman Division, Bobby Churchill was eliminated in the first round of eliminations causing the Championship to go to Jesse Lasik. Jesse was not at the races today because of a prior commitment and was awarded the Championship in absentia. In the Modified Division, TJ Trench had a slim nine point lead over Bobby Bode. In the third round, they were matched head to head. TJ redlighted allowing Bobby to take a one point lead and the Championship. It was disappointing to TJ and his family, however they had a great season. Bobby, early in the season, was way behind in the points, but came on in the end to win the Championship. In Saturday's races, Kamryn Schubbe won in Sportsman by beating Braden Bowden. Bobby Bode won in Modified by beating Jake Lucky. Twenty minutes after the conclusion of the event it began to rain which turned into a deluge. Which leads to the second event of the day, Team Demolition Derby. We want to congratulate all this year's winners and champions. Here are some photos from the Junior Dragster action.

![]() It has been an exciting week! With the launch of the new website and preparing for next week's first Race in the Chase, it has kept us very busy! If you are reading this, on Thursday, we activated the blog portion of the website. Now, I am going back and loading images from past events. I just uploaded Rounds 2 & 3 of the Junior Dragsters. This completes that set for the year. I will remind everyone that if you are looking for a specific photo, please ask us. We post a representative portion of each event we photograph. We will take between 300 to over a 1,000 images at any given event. We will cover the pits, staging lanes and race track activities. It is impossible to post every image. However, if you have a special request, it is likely we may have the image. With that said, Thursday was motorhome repair day. In preparation for the upcoming Chase weekend, I had to replace the hot water heater and rebuild the entry way steps. I don't know how long the tank had been leaking because nothing was ever visible, but quite a bit of damage was done. It is all repaired and now we have to focus on the Chase weekend. It's going to be very busy in the Media Center with all three touring series in town. Photography will not be the main focus for Janet and me during the Chase weekend. We will be working hard, managing activities in the desk area and deadline room in the Media Center. In any spare time, I will try to get out and shoot some of the behind-the-scenes activities that the normal race fan does not get to see. Since I have to be in the Media Center very early to ensure a smooth operation for Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio, I sometimes am able to get out and wander around the area prior to the teams and fans arriving. It's the calm before the storm, and sometimes some interesting images can be found. At least, I will try. Later on today (Friday), I'm trying to get to Route 66 for the late afternoon/evening Test and Tune. I have to give the homestead some time and pick up the granddaughter after school, then fight Friday traffic all the way to Joliet. We will see. I don't know at this point whether I have Janet's permission to head up to Rockford Speedway for their Saturday evening event. We will see about that too! Anyway, the next week or so is going to be a great time. Hope to see everyone at the race track. * Click here to view the Junior Dragsters event photos. ![]() It was a great day at the Route 66 Raceway yesterday. The Junior Dragsters were great as always. The kids are awesome. One minute they are competing as drag racers and the next they're just kids playing. Since this was their last race for the season, the families had a big post-race cook-out. I would have loved to have stayed; however, we had to move over to the Dirt Oval for the Team Demo Derby. The Team Demolition Derby event had some scary moments when one of the drivers had to be cut out of his car! He took a tremendous hit and was stunned. After being placed on the back board and transported off the track, he woke up, asked "What's all this stuff, get it off of me." He stood up and returned to his team! A good win for the Real Steel team. After getting home very late, I was up early, cleaned the cameras, downloaded all images, cleared the cards and put everything back together. Now its time for a nap!! * Click here to view the Junior Dragsters event photos. * Team Demolition Derby event photos coming soon. In the meantime, click here for past event photos. |
