![]() The rain delayed the racing until about 2:30 p.m . There were a couple of short rain delays, but quick action by the Route 66 staff kept the track dry. The original plan was to get in as many elimination rounds as possible up to 11:00 p.m. There were two other delays, one for an oil down and the other a very strange incident.. A car did its burnout in the Toyota lane and returned to the starting line when it suddenly shot forward with loud popping noises. As the car continued slowly down the track, I saw flames and smoke coming from under the hood. The fire and smoke became quite intense before the driver was able to get it stopped. Fortunately, the driver was able to exit the car safely. Before I left for the night, I was unable to determine what happened. The other bad part was that it caught me totally by surprise so I didn't get any pictures of it. However, Bill Swanson of Competition Plus captured the whole sequence. When they upload the gallery from Saturday you will be able to see it by clicking here. I will attempt to find out what happened on Sunday. Here are some photos from Saturday's action. At the same time as the on-track action, there was a car show in the Midway. Here are a few from that. I decided to leave the track around 9:00 p.m As I was leaving, it started to rain and didn't stop for my entire hour drive home. When I arrived home, I learned that because of the weather they had to call it a night.
The weather is looking much better for Sunday and it should be a great day. It will probably be longer than anticipated due to Saturday's rain delays, but enjoyable all the same. See you at the track.
