Last night, the Route 66 Raceway celebrated its 2015 season with its annual Rockett Brand Racing Fuel E.T. Bracket Series Banquet. The Champions in the seven divisions were crowned along with the Racer of the Year award and several other special awards. First, let's look at our seven track champions. Leading off is the Junior Sportsman Champion Bobby Churchill. Bobby won the championship by 32 points over Mikayla Highland. In the Junior Modified Division, the first four positions were a family affair with Todd (TJ) Trench Jr. beating his sister Tori by one point to take the championship. Followed by the Senko sisters Sydney and Samantha, respectively. Next up was the High School Division, won by Austin Headrick. The season was primarily a head-to-head battle between Austin and Fernando Lopez Jr. In the Pro Bike Division, it was Bob Foster Jr. winning his Track Championship. In the Sportsman Division it was Bill Northup in his English Ford taking the Championship. The Sportsman Division was very competitive all year long. In the Pro ET Division, Troy Bogner drove away from the field. Troy had one of those season where he could do little wrong. His closest competitor finished 345 points behind. It was a season for the record books! Of course, his fellow competitors wouldn't admit that his season was based on talent, but that he had incredible luck. So, they awarded him the "Lucky Horse Shoe" award. In the Super Pro Division, it was Todd Trench Sr. continuing the winning family theme. It was a fight all season long in one of the most competitive divisions. When it came time to award Racer of the year it really was no contest. Troy Bogner's season speaks for itself. It was a fabulous season! In the Rookie of the Year category it was the return to the track of the "Rough Rider"! Except, this time it was Mark Coonan's son Jack doing the driving. Jack did a great job all year. The Spirit Award was a well deserved honor for Gary Biela. Gary parked his 1969 Camaro "Frogie" twenty-nine years ago. This year he decided to roll out and come back to drag racing. He had a great season finishing third in the Pro E.T. Division and winning the last race of the season. I don't think many had more fun than Gary! There was a sentimental moment when Ken Kohrs took the stage and proceeded to tell the story of Charlie Lindsey. Charlie, in some capacity, has been at Route 66 from nearly the beginning. At the end of the season, Charlie retired as a full time employee but fortunately he will still be at the track on a part-time basis. In his honor, the annual Sportsmanship Award has been re-named the Charlie Lindsey Sportsmanship Award. It couldn't have been named after a better person! And then there was the Route 66 Family of the Year. This was a well deserved award to our table mates the Senko Family. Congratulations! It was a fun night to hand out some awards. I, personally, want to thank everyone at Route 66 for their kindness and help for the entire season. To all the drivers, their crews and family I want to thank them for their tolerance of Janet and I poking a camera lens in their faces. Route 66 is a fun place to shoot. Again, thank you! Lets have a great 2016 race season!! Here are some more images from the night's fun. To see more images from the night, click here.
